Obituary of James Duncan Gordon, Jr.
Jim was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and moved to Roanoke, after retiring from his fabricating business. Jim passed away after a brief battle with Cancer. He was predeceased by his father, James; mother, Elisabeth Ewing; his first wife, Janet Lund; and sons, Eric and Glenn.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Sullivan; daughter, Beth; son-in-law, Matthew; son, Scott; grandchildren, Dana and Sean; great-grandson, Mason; and his stepchildren, Brian, Alicia, Kyle and Colin.
Jim was an artistic man, a creative problem solver who could visualize a concept and execute it with engineering discipline. He was an expert welder and fabricator; he loved to work in all materials including designing and making his grandsons wedding bands from titanium. He loved surprising friends and family with pieces of his artwork. He was always willing to help friends and repair whatever needed fixing. Jim was loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to his favorite charity the Roanoke Valley SPCA. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. (540)366-0707.
