Obituary of George Nathan Arthur
George Nathan Arthur, 67, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 1, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Sarah Arthur; and sister, Janet Raby.
George was born and raised in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. After finishing his education at UNC, he married Karen in 1978 and then moved to Roanoke, Virginia. For 37 years, George worked at and taught Technical Theater at Roanoke College, where he touched the lives of many students.
For many years, George was an active member of the Williamson Road Masonic Lodge. He greatly enjoyed wood working, as evidenced by his membership in the Blue Ridge Woodturners. Between participating in local craft shows and frequently gifting his beautiful creations, his unique works are found in many households.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Karen Arthur; son, Brittain (Sarah) Arthur; daughter, Lindsay (Michael) Wilhelm; his precious granddaughters, Lilah and Elizabeth Arthur and Olive Wilhelm; brothers, Charles (Brenda) Arthur and Lewis (Sandy) Arthur; and numerous other family members.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 11:00am at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1008 Franklin Road SW, Roanoke, VA 24016, where he was an active member for 30 years. Pastor James Armentrout will be officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
